5 saunas and hammams to discover on your doorstep – Charleroi Metropolitan Area

It is not always an easy task to find saunas and hammams that are both charming and clean. The best-known places in Belgium are often packed and always seem to be a bit of a drive away…

To really unwind after a day of work or during periods of high stress, whether you go alone, as a couple or as part of a group, here is our pick of wellness centres. Intimate and unintimidating, they are practically on your doorstep, in the heart of the Charleroi Metropolitan Area.

Pure Spa Wellness in Mont-sur-Marchienne

This is an undeniable favourite among spa-goers. Opinions are very positive: “A wonderful discovery which I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend”, “Paradise,” “I recommend it 100%, I had the best massage of my life”, “Everywhere smells beautiful, the towels are extra soft, the tea is so soothing, the lighting so gentle, the masseuse so sweet and kind, the spa is amazing. It was magical!”

The wellness area comprises a hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, infrared bench, sensory showers… Part of this space can be hired for private use. Customers are looked after right down to the smallest details. They can enjoy the spa alone, as a couple or in a group of friends. The extremely professional members of staff are very attentive to customers’ individual needs and tailor massages accordingly.

Hammam Aziza, Charleroi

In Charleroi, treat yourself to a genuine traditional Moroccan hammam and let yourself unwind completely. After the hammam it’s time for a scrub and massage with black soap and olive oil. Round off the proceedings with the North African tradition of drinking tea, with the sound of enchanting music playing in the background all the while.

The beneficial effects of a hammam last for several days.

The moment you push open the door, you find yourself magically whisked away: this is where your journey begins. Manager Abderrahim Harchi has succeeded in bringing Morocco to his clients. The whole spa, spotlessly clean, has been designed to create an authentic ambiance. The panelling comes directly from Morocco. The walls are painted in warm hues. Incense perfumes the air.

Best of all: visiting this hammam won’t break the bank.

Rêves d’Ô, Fontaine-l’Évêque

For an experience that makes you lose track of time and switch off from day to day stress, plan a visit to this wellness centre. The private facilities include a jacuzzi, hammam, sauna and indoor swimming pool. In summer, visitors can enjoy the terrace.

This cocoon can be enjoyed as a couple, but also by groups of friends. The zen-like ambiance is warm and welcoming. The service offered is incomparable and hygiene standards are beyond reproach. The owners, highly attuned to their clients’ needs, cater to your every whim. You can even pick out your preferred massage oil and refresh your palate with sumptuous fruit kebabs.

The many products provided (teas, scrubs, oils, etc.) are sourced from local producers and retailers.

La Compagnie des Indes, Joncret

Soak up this enchanting atmosphere with the flavours of India. The décor, carefully chosen right down to the last detail, is an open invitation to relax. Alongside treatments and massages, you can enjoy a private spa: sauna, hammam, heated outdoor jacuzzi (38 degrees Celsius) and a relaxation area with an open fire. As if that weren’t enough, the sweeping views across the neighbouring countryside are simply stunning.

The spa is located in the municipality of Gerpinnes, surrounded by countryside. The managers, Raymonde and Paul-Henri Lallemand, designed the space so as to offer guaranteed relaxation in an intimate atmosphere. Every care is taken.

Boost your relaxation in an Indian setting, even sampling a typical dish or two.

The Thalasud Centre in Loverval

In our view, what makes this centre stand out essentially amounts to two things: the quality of the treatments and the kindness of the staff. Upon arrival, you are given a bathrobe and slippers to make you feel right at home.

Enjoy the pool, the hammam, the sauna and, weather permitting, the terrace. The resting room, complete with hammocks, has won over many on more than one occasion, with “this feeling of being on holiday”. Furthermore, the foot massage comes highly recommended by a large number of clients.

The layout of the centre (which is spread over an area of 500 m²!) and its upkeep have been designed with nature in mind, so as to respect the environment. The air is recycled, the floor is disinfected using ionisation, the lighting is used only when and where needed and the pool water is unchlorinated.
