Open air swimming this summer around the Charleroi Metropolitan Area

Open air swimming this summer around the Charleroi Metropolitan Area

Whether you prefer lake swimming or an outdoor pool, the metropolitan area has no shortage of great places you can go to cool off and soak up the sunshine this summer.

Recreation Centre at Chapelle-lez-Herlaimont

The domain at Claire-Fontaine boasts a swimming area with daily lifeguard supervision. Suitable for children and teenagers, the bathing area includes several waterslides, a pristine beach, beach volleyball nets and petanque courts.

Why not also have a go on a pedalo or take off on a fishing trip?

NB: during the current health crisis, reservations are mandatory.

The Eau d’Heure lakes

Lovers of watersports and open air swimming are sure to find the Eau d’Heure lakes to their liking.

In Froidchapelle, at the Plate Taille lake, head for Espace Fun with its fine sandy beach, supervised bathing area and laid back bar. If the mood takes you, try your hand at windsurfing or skyboarding.

The Relais de Falemprise at Cerfontaine is another perfect place to spend a family day out and enjoy its lovely paddling pool… During the current health crisis, the trampolines, bouncy castles, beach volley pitches, pedalo rental and other facilities unfortunately are closed… But it’s only temporary! Find up to date information on the CM Tourisme website.

At Féronval lake, in Froidchapelle, throughout the summer months you are sure to find adventure on the inflatable obstacle course. This waterpark spans some 2,500 m² and includes tall waterslides, bubbles and even some jumps. These are recent additions to the lake and will be there until the end of August. For the thrillseekers, the Spin Cablepark experience (the only place in Wallonia where you can enjoy water skiing) is bound to be a hit.

Thrill-seekers look no further!

The Marcinelle Recreation Centre

The Aquatic Centre of Charleroi-les-Bains comprises several bathing areas: a 50-metre pool, a paddling pool with water jets, a slide and series of springboards.

Serious swimmers can get their laps in from the early hours of the morning as the pool is reserved exclusively for lane swimming from Monday to Friday between the hours of 8:00 and 10:00am.

NB: Reservations are mandatory

The Froidchapelle water centre

In addition to its wellness facilities (sauna, hammam and jacuzzi), the Aquacentre is perfectly suited to our unpredictable Belgian climate, thanks to its indoor pool and range of facilities that make it possible to enjoy the water both indoors and outdoors.

Weather looking slightly dodgy? No problem! Leave the deckchairs and the play area behind, and simply head inside where you can take a dip in the indoor pool.

At the moment, due to current sanitary measures, only the outdoor areas are accessible. Stay informed !

Other places to cool off…

Are watersports more your thing? Discover the pleasures of kayaking and canoeing on the Viroin in Treignes (it is important to note that swimming in the Viroin is prohibited) or take a leisurely row around the Jardins d’O in Nismes. Further north in the Metropolitan Area, the watercourse at La Marlette in Seneffe offers trips in rowboats, kayaks and sailboats.

The Spin Cablepark, unique in Belgium: a combination of surfing and water skiing

Why spend hours on the road, getting stuck in endless traffic jams only to find a tiny spot on a packed beach on sunny days? There are some beautiful spots to cool off lakeside right here in the Charleroi Metropolitan Area!
